Friday Linkzookery – 15 Dec 2006

So after one week, what do you guys think of the experimental plan to post a bit of Linkzookery every day instead of saving everything for Friday? Let me know.

Anyway, on to the Linkzookery:

  • Boeing Wichita wins $7.2M B-52 upgrade contract
Upgrading the Buff with color monitors to make using laser-guided weapons easier.
  • Marines see glimmer of hope in Al Anbar
Can’t be…just a few weeks ago we were all assured that the province was “lost”. What did the Marines do? Suddenly find it? Or was the press maybe just being stupid again?
  • Battling the Insurgency in Fallujah
Speaking of Anbar, Bill Roggio reports from the place.
  • Pinochet Vs. Castro
As usual on Dean’s World, the comments section is very much worth reading.
  • Iran needs a Pinochet
Frank Warner: Let’s put Iran’s –Supreme Leader” Ayatollah Ali Khamenei (forget that puppet Ahmadinejad) up to a yes-or-no vote. That would be a revolution.
  • Castro said to be near death
Again. Still. Whatever. The only bad thing about this guy kicking the bucket is that we’re going to be subjected to all sorts of wailing and mourning and retrospectives and crap. My guess is that it’s going to be close to what happened after the death of Princess Diana. I hope Elton John doesn’t rewrite “Empty Garden” for ol’ Fidel.
  • Big Plane, Fly Low!
Pinch has a video of a very low (okay, a very very low) flyby by a French KC-135. What the Hades were those crazy Frenchmen thinking?
  • Army Looks at Restructuring
Looking to speed the re-org and increase the increase.
  • Dennis Miller on Iraq, Al Qaeda, and President Bush
Video at OpFor. I generally like Miller, and this is no exception.
  • New Wars’ MiLinks
When Friday Linkzookery just isn’t enough.
  • Eason Jordan: living down to my expectations
Jay Tea on Jordan’s reports that the asking price for AK-47 ammunition in Iraq is skyrocketing.
  • Wrecked warship is a ‘timebomb’
The American Liberty ship SS Richard Montgomery, sunk in WW2 off the coast of Kent, is loaded with 1400 tons of explosives.
  • How the Public School System Crushes Souls
My experiences weren’t anywhere near as bad as this, and I’m certainly no genius or prodigy of any sort. Or even a particularly “free spirit” as the term is usually used. But I still more or less agree with the “crushes souls” bit. (However, I must say that “What if your spirit won’t allow you to follow directions?” is absolutely ridiculous. Give me a break.) UPDATE: I posted on this over at MichiBlogger, and the author responded in the comments section.
  • Books for Soldiers
    Books + Soldiers = GOOD.
  • F-117A Nighthawk inactivation imminent
The 7th Fighter Squadron “Sceamin’ Demons” will inactivate on Dec. 31.
  • No Warrant Searches
    Troubling.
  • Staged Qana Event Among Reuters Photo of the Year
Under the category “Faked but True”? What a joke. I hope it wins.
  • What the Hell…is Noah Shachtman doing in this pic?
Do we even want to know?
  • The Daedalus Starship
Something that I read a lot about as a kid. Cool.

Remember to let me know what you think of the new Linkzookery experiment.

Comments

  1. Jay Tea on Jordan’s reports that the asking price for AK-47s in Iraq is skyrocketing.’ I think you mean AK-47 ammunition.
